Mazuri Mini Pig

Mazuri Mini Pig

Each Mazuri Mini-Pig product is formulated for a specific life stage. They are not interchangeable. In particular, the Mazuri Mini-Pig Active Adult should not be used as a feed for baby pigs, nor should Mazuri Mini-Pig Elder be used for lactating animals.

Youth

Youth
Mazuri Mini-Pig Youth can be fed on a free-choice basis as the young pigs will start nibbling on it. Usually this occurs from the time the pigs are around 7 days old. It can be fed as a complete ration until the pigs are 16 weeks old. This product was specifically formulated to give the babies a healthy start, ensuring proper growth and development early in their life cycle.

Some of the specific nutritional attributes of this product include: protein containing properly balanced amino acids needed for muscle growth and development: selenium and natural vitamin E, important in maintaining good health; dried whey (a milk product), making the diet highly palatable to baby pigs; all vegetable protein, to insure long life; and all of the essential vitamins crucial for proper utilization of the other nutrients.

Active Adult

Active Adult
Nutritional requirements of adult mini-pigs depend on many factors including genetics, environmental temperature, other food available and level of activity.

Mazuri Mini-Pig Active Adult is a moderate-energy diet which can be fed to meet the nutritional requirements of adult pigs that are involved in growing, showing, and breeding. When changing pigs from Mazuri Mini-Pig Youth or another diet, do so gradually. Mix food for 3 to 7 days, gradually increasing the Mazuri Mini-Pig Active Adult. Under average living conditions, active young adult animals up to 3 years of age should require a level of 1-2% of body weight to maintain proper condition without putting on excess fat.

Elder

Elder
Mazuri Mini-Pig Elder is a low-energy, high-fiber diet specifically formulated to maintain less-active adult pigs at 1-1/2 years and mature pigs at 3 years of age or older. As the activity level of the pig decreases, all of the nutritional requirements decline. Protein and energy are two of those nutrients. Mazuri Mini-Pig Elder is lower in protein, higher in fiber and lower energy than Mazuri Mini-Pig Active Adult in order to maintain the pot-bellied pig for a long, healthy life. A feeding level of 1-2% of body weight should be adequate for maintaining body weight without putting on excess fat. Feed this diet to pigs following Mazuri Mini-Pig Active Adult and feed for 3-5 days to help adjust animals to new feed. Again, many factors affect the intake requirement of the pig, so daily required levels will vary.

Nutritional attributes of Mazuri Mini-Pig Active Adult and Mini-Pig Elder include: soybean oil, which provides essential fatty acids necessary for good hair and skin coats; proper levels of calcium, phosphorus and trace minerals for proper bone maintenance; increased levels of B-vitamins and natural vitamin E, avoids possible deficiences due to limit-feeding. Minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, zinc and selenium, as well as the vitamins are added at levels to maintain the animals without additional nutritional supplements being required in the pig's daily food intake. Organic zinc is included to aid in maintaining good skin condition. All of the protein is from vegetable sources to help in adding to a long, healthy life.

Aome adult and elder pigs are prone to develop urinary calculi (or bladder stone) problems. This condition occurs more often in males but is not limited to them. While some pigs have a genetic predisposition to develop stones, most problems of this type can be avoided by feeding Mazuri Mini-Pig Active Adult or Mazuri Mini-Pig Elder. Both products contain urine acidifiers to decrease urinary calculi. In addition to the urine acidifier, yucca extract is included to reduce the ammonia in the urine.
